What's New?
Assassin's Girls Gone Wild Tuesdays attracts the stars
Tuesday, May 6 saw Assassin hosting the first of his new event called "Girls Gone Wild Tuesdays", held at the popular party spot, Weekendz.
With sponsors Sobe Adrenaline Rush on board, the 600 patrons in the venue got down with the early jugglings of the Coppershot Disco and partied with the tantalizing mixes from DJ Christuff and Dr Dre of Renaissance Disco, later in the night.
The event saw familiar faces of the dancehall as popular entertainers gave their support and endorsed the event: Sean Paul, Bounti Killa, Daseca, Serani, Bugle, Voicemail, Ward 21 and Nittie Kutchie. Dancers - Shelly Belly, Keva, and Chi Ching Ching – also attended and added their flavour to the event.
"Bigger and better things are to come," commented a satisfied Assassin, and the ladies who attended the event got a taste of what is to come. "Supahype and Narity from Bloodline hosted an impromptu dance competition and the winners were awarded US$100 and JA$6000 as well as products from Adrenaline Rush," he said.
"Come out early as we kick things off at 9pm and we want to finish on time to avoid any problems with the law and we want everyone to enjoy great music and vibes every week," Assassin also said. "This event is definitely something that should not be missed. It is on its way to becoming one of Kingston's premiere events".
Assassin has been attacking the airwaves with his lyrical dexterity and recently added his touch to the remix to Usher's popular single, "Love In This Club".
"The Menswear fashions were a big hit with the audience, as well as the Dexter Pottinger's Digicel couture pieces," said a satisfied Deiwght Peters, CEO of Saint International. "It was also much bigger than the previous ones, with over 12,000 high energy persons witnessing the iconic event".
FashionBlock is normally accommodated over the Easter weekend but this year's event was not at all affected by this change. "I think the timing this year made this year even better than the previous FashionBlocks we've had in Montego Bay. And the support received from their business sector, especially those on Gloucester Avenue, truly propelled the success of this year's event," commented Peters.
Always equipped with his eye for talent, Peters also grasped the opportunity to recruit two new young ladies (Melanie Ribbe and Ann Marie Lumsden), and were offered Saint contracts right then and there. Peters hopes to groom into the success stories of top international model Canise Campbell, who won the very first Faces of Summer competition and was discovered in Montego Bay.
Next year, FashionBlock MoBay will be an even grander spectacle and is anticipating getting even more support from the business sector of Montego Bay. But special thanks goes out to Digicel, Sunday Herald, Zip FM, Linkz 96 FM, TVJ Electrotech, Ping 's Fabric, Nationwide Radio, Knutsford Express, Mitsubishi, Coral Cliff, The Brewery, Tony's Pizza and Wexford Court.
With the rational and objective of introducing Western Jamaica to local designers, FashionBlock MoBay is indeed becoming a worldwide calendar event, and this year, it also marked the countdown of Saint International's flagship event, STYLEWEEK, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 22 – Sunday, May 25, 2008.
